What healthy people really eat for breakfast

 tháng 5 21, 2018     No comments

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but only if you do it right. You can supercharge your morning with a superfood or feel like you're running on empty. The choice is up to you. Here are 10 food tips that every healthy person knows will prepare them to seize the day.

Actually eat food, for starters

The first rule of the breakfast club is that you have to actually eat breakfast. Whether you're focused on losing weight or just aren't that hungry in the morning, it can be tempting to skip those calories and go right for lunch. If that sounds like your morning routine, science would like a word with you. In fact, skipping breakfast can increase your risk of diabetes and heart disease, on top of actually making it harder for you to lose weight.

Be a fruit ninja
Adding fruit to your breakfast meal not only provides you with critical vitamins and minerals that help your body meet the day at full strength, but the extra dietary fiber can also help you feel fuller for longer. This simple addition to your breakfast packs a one-two punch of nutrition, and helps you maintain your weight as you're less likely to get the munchies and go overboard for lunch.

Only drink this kind of smoothie

A smoothie is a fantastically healthy way to start your day, but the color is oh-so-important. Why go with green? Because we're talking about a vegetable-based smoothie. With fruit-based smoothies, it's often easy to go overboard and suddenly your nutrient-rich breakfast is sneaking tons of sugar and calories into your diet. Vegetable smoothies, on the other hand, offer a bounty of health benefits like increased energy, crucial antioxidants, and more, all while sparing you the overdose of sugar. It's a win-win!

Make a meal out of oatmeal
Oatmeal is the breakfast triple threat: high-fiber, low-calorie, and loaded with critical minerals your body needs. On top of helping control hunger through high fiber content, oatmeal is naturally gluten-free.

Greece wins the yogurt Olympics

There are so many health benefits to eating Greek yogurt that it's difficult to contain them all in a single paragraph. To begin, it's just plain packed with nutrients. It's also got plenty of protein, which helps keep your stomach from growling even longer after a meal. The calcium Greek yogurt contains has been shown to help with weight loss, too. On top of all that, this superfood is loaded with probiotics to give your immune system a natural boost.

Things Healthy People Do Every Day

 tháng 5 20, 2018     No comments

Small changes for all 365 days of the new year.
We all know that health is a lifelong work in progress. But even though you can never check wellness off your list of resolutions—Darn it!—you can accomplish small things every day to feel good and fend off problems. Experts say these day-to-day habits add up

They Go to Bed by 10.
It’s a given that not getting enough sleep can seriously hurt your health (it increases your risk for cardiovascular disease, for starters) but it could also matter when you clock those seven or eight hours. “The recent literature suggests that the optimal healing time for sleep is between 10 p.m. and midnight,” says Aunna Herbst, a doctor of osteopathic medicine at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine. Hitting the sack early has major benefits, she says: think better healing and immunity and less free radical damage and inflammation.
They Breathe Deeply.
Meditation or deep breathing—free of technology or other interruptions—can do more than just center you. “It’s been shown to lower flight or flight hormones,” Dr. Herbst says. That decreases anxiety, regulates blood sugar and helps your immune system, she says. You don’t have to follow any specific breathing pattern or practice, but to optimize the habit, schedule at least 10 minutes of daily meditation between 1 and 3 p.m. That’s when hormones that control our sleep/wake cycle often dip.
They Connect With Other People.
People in good relationships live longer, feel happier, and are healthier overall, Herbst says. (One study found that having social ties had as much benefit to a person’s risk of death as quitting smoking.) And spending time with friends and family can help you relieve stress, another important piece of health. So prioritize that dinner party. “Anything that allows you to use your creative side... and gives you a sense of community and connection is huge,” Dr. Herbst says.

They Eat Nuts.
Snacking on a handful of any nut (raw or roasted) five or more times a week slashes your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease—along with a long list of other benefits, says Ann Kulze, M.D., a physician and health coach. “Nuts are a standout food for weight control, improving metabolic health, vision protection, and brain health,” Dr. Kulze says. “When you look at their makeup, it’s no big surprise. They’re chock full of critically important nutrients, healthy fats, vital vitamins and minerals, and super potent anti-inflammatory phytochemicals.”
They're Strategic About Sitting.
You know you need to exercise to stay healthy, but hitting the gym regularly isn’t enough if you’re also spending long stretches in a desk chair or on the couch: “When you’re sitting for prolonged periods of time, you’re damaging your body,” Dr. Kulze says. But you don’t have to quit your day job—just make sure to do some light activity for two to three minutes (walking to a co-worker’s office or doing a set of jumping jacks, for example) every hour that you’re sitting to counteract the negative effects.
They Laugh.
Consider this an excuse to catch up on the comedy in your Netflix queue. “When you have a good belly laugh, you actually burn some calories, and you get happier,” says Judy Simon, R.D., a registered dietitian nutritionist and a clinical instructor at the University of Washington. Laughter can relieve stress and give you an endorphin rush, she says. In fact, a small 2014 study of elderly people found that watching a funny video decreased stress hormones and improved memory.
They Cook.
Cutting back on delivery dinners and fast-casual lunches and eating mostly home-cooked meals can help you lose or maintain your weight and avoid chronic diseases. It's easy to guess why: you can sneak in extra fruits and vegetables and control portions when you’re the one in the kitchen. “In the short term, it can help fuel people better so they’re getting nutrients that they need," Simon says. "They can have a healthy quality of life now and reduce their risk for many types of cancer, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.” When life gets too busy to think about cooking, meal planning, meal delivery services, and grocery deliveries can all help, Simon says.

They Get Outside.

Spending time outdoors provides vitamin D—crucial for strong bones and mental health—and gets you moving. Strolling through the woods or a park instead of down a city block could be even better for you. A 2015 study found that people who took a walk through nature had fewer negative thoughts and less activity in the area of the brain linked to mental illness risk compared with those who walked down a busy street. “Go outside,” Simon says. “It’s so good for your mood. Having the connection with nature and something bigger than ourselves, [experiencing] the wonder of it, helps release stress.”

The untold truth of Adam Sandler

 tháng 5 19, 2018     No comments

Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Adam Sandler has had a considerable impact on the shape of comedy today. You know him from his early days on Saturday Night Live, his oft-repeated songs, and movies that have had up-and-down responses from critics and audiences alike. So, what's really going on behind that goofy — and sometimes frighteningly angry — big-screen persona?

He was fired from SNL, but he got a fax machine

Adam Sandler was on television screens during a golden age for long-time mainstay Saturday Night Live. He was so popular it seemed likely that he had a job for as long as he wanted it. And yet, in 1995, both he and Chris Farley were given the boot. Just what happened has been up for debate for a long time, and in 2014 he sat down with The Daily Beast to say at least a bit about it.

"Yes, we were [fired]," he confirmed. "We kind of quit at the same time as being fired. It was the end of the run for us. The fact that me and him got fired? Who knows. We were on it for a few years, had our run, and everything happens for a reason. We kind of understood because we did our thing. It hurt a lot at the time because we were young and didn't know where we were going, but it all worked out."

What happened to Sandler and Farley was by no means unusual, and they weren't the only ones to find themselves with a suddenly broken contract. The Chicago Tribune took a look at everyone that broke from SNL under less-than-perfect circumstances, and it was a long list that included Sarah Silverman, Norm MacDonald, and Chris Parnell. While Sandler might just be another name in a long list, he did tell Conan O'Brien that he got his payback. Appearing on O'Brien's fledgling show meant returning to NBC, and Sandler didn't just accept with no conditions. Before he'd make his return, he insisted that the network buy him a fax machine — and they did.

If you're ever hoping that he might return to host SNL one of these days, it's unlikely. That's at least what he told ScreenCrush in 2015, saying, "It was great to be back [for the anniversary special], I loved it. I would love to do an anniversary every year. [...] I'm not sure I can sit there for six days and do the show. I like watching it."

He doesn't read the bad reviews, but he hears about them

If there's one thing you can say about Adam Sandler's movies, it's that they at least semi-consistently get a lot of hate. Take Pixels, his 2015 tribute to 1980s gaming. Las Vegas Weekly gave us their thoughts on it, first praising the short that it was based on, then saying, "Sadly, they've turned it into an Adam Sandler film, albeit one slightly less lazy and obnoxious than his other recent efforts. Of course, calling Pixels one of Sandler's better movies is like calling a particular strain of Ebola somewhat less horrifically painful; either way, it's not pleasant."

Ouch! Words like that have got to hurt, no matter how thick a person's skin is. Everyone knows the entertainment business can be rough, but how do you reconcile yourself when it's that harsh?

"I know what they're writing about me," Sandler told The Independent in 2013. "I could almost write the piece for them by now. But then I remember that I didn't get into movies to please the critics. I got into it to make people laugh and have fun with my friends." He addressed the relentless bad reviews when he talked to The Daily Beast, too, and when he did, it was with a shrug. "I don't really read 'em. I hear about 'em, and have friend who called me up and told me how much they hated my last thing [Blended], and every move I make I hear how they don't like it. [...] You know, I wish they would calm down a little bit."

He's incredibly media-shy

While Sandler has spoken a bit about how he feels about the critics, he hasn't really said much about his lack of regular interviews. Most actors find filming their project is only part of the job and the promotional tour is the other part, but Sandler is notorious for dodging interviews — especially with the press. According to ScreenCrush, who did get a sit-down, on-screen chat with him, they quoted him as saying, "I used to be misquoted all the time," as the reason he swore off talking to print media.

Sandler spoke to The Harvard Crimson in 2000, and even then, he gave a sneak peek into something that has to do with his aversion to conversations with the media. When the Crimson asked him how he felt about all the negative reviews he was getting even then, his answer involved just how two-faced he thought the critics were.

"The worst part about all of it — as a guy who gets a lot of s**t from critics — is like, one time I was in a room with a person who kept going on and on about how much he loved the movie and he's just going nuts and looking me in the eye. That night, I see him on TV saying, 'This movie is useless.' And I'm like, 'Dude! That's the guy who was nice to me.'"

His movies have done better than you think

In March 2017, Netflix announced that they were signing Sandler to another contract for another four movies. It was met with not a small amount of confusion, especially considering The Ridiculous 6, perhaps the most well-known of Sandler's first four Netflix films, didn't just get a shocking 0 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was the subject of a huge controversy over its treatment of Native Americans. That led to a massive walk-out by actors, cast, and crew, so when Netflix said they were bringing him back, it left people scratching their heads.

According to Netflix, though, Sandler's films are some of the most popularly viewed movies across the US and 50 other territories across the world (via Business Insider). They also note that when his movies do hit theaters, the successes have done so well that they make up for the failures. At the time they were writing, his 30-odd movies had raked in $3.9 billion.

Things you should never put on your face

 tháng 5 18, 2018     No comments

How many beauty products do you use in your skincare and makeup routine? According to The Telegraph, the average woman uses 16 — per day. It's no surprise, then, that the beauty industry is booming.

While these products may be selling at a steady pace — global sales should reach $130 billion by 2019 — that doesn't necessarily guarantee their safety. Believe it or not, cosmetics — including skincare products — are "very lightly regulated" by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Fortune.

Although cosmetics are required to contain labels, companies can cry "trade secrets" to avoid having to share what they've used. Additionally, anyone who's anyone can sell these products. Steve Xu, a resident physician in the department of dermatology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, confirmed to Fortune that no documentation, pre-market approval, or registration is even required. Yikes!

If you're now thinking you'd be better off just DIY-ing your skincare products, that isn't always a surefire way, either. The best option? Leaving this matter up to professionals. According to the experts, here are some things you should never put on your face.

Body lotion is a no

How many times have you run out of facial moisturizer and decided to just use some body lotion? In a pinch, it's fine, right? Well, probably, but routinely lathering your face with lotion that's designed for your body is a big fat nope.

Michael Kaminer, a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon explained to Skincare.com, saying, "[Doing this] too often can lead to blocked pores." Of course, no one wants to deal with blocked pores!

"If you're staying at a hotel and you have to use the body lotion they have on your face, it's probably fine," Kaminer explained. It's the habitual use that's the real problem. If you've been relying on body lotion for your whole body, you should look for moisturizer specifically designed for your face.

"Moisturizers provide key nurturing ingredients to your skin, leaving you with a clean and hydrated surface," Dermatologist Ellen Marmur told Self.

Avoid the bar — soap that is

Just what should you be using to wash your face? As a kid, you may have used a handy dandy bar of soap. As an adult, however, that's not the best idea.

"Washing the face is a complex interaction," Zoe D. Draelos, a clinical associate professor of dermatology in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, explained to Fox News. "Cleansing the skin is a fine balance between balancing the skin's hygiene and leaving substances that are integral for the functioning of the skin."

Bar soap just doesn't seem to be able to strike that delicate balance. "I never, ever use a harsh, regular soap as a face or body cleanser," Marmur said when speaking to Power of Positivity. "Regular" soap, or bar soap, actually strips your skin of the nutrients it needs. This is because the soap utilizes chemicals that are both tough on the skin and unnatural. The result is "rough, dry, and itchy [skin]," Marmur explained.

Toothpaste is for teeth

It may sound a little silly, but when you've developed a zit, and you want it gone immediately, you're likely to try anything — even toothpaste. If it's safe to use on your teeth then it must be safe to use on your skin, wouldn't you think? Unfortunately, that's not true.

While people have been using and touting toothpaste as a "zit-zapper" for years, it's simply bad advice. "It's just not good for your skin over the long-haul," Kaminer told Skincare.com. While it most likely will help to dry out the pimple, toothpaste can irritate your skin and has the potential to be overly-drying.

That's not to say you have to forego spot treatments, you just shouldn't use toothpaste. Alternatives, according to Kaminer, include products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Salicylic acid, a type of beta-hyrodxy acid (BHA) works to exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells while benzoyl peroxide works by fighting off and killing acne-causing bacteria, according to Dermatologist Whitney Bowe's comments to Teen Vogue. Both are great choices for spot-treating those pesky pimples.

Hairspray is not a substitute for setting spray

Setting spray, also called finishing spray or makeup setting spray, is a really useful tool in helping your makeup stay put all day. You simply mist and voila! Your makeup is set in place and you can stay all dolled up without the fear of your makeup breaking up. Well, couldn't you just use hairspray to achieve the same result? People do, but that doesn't make the tip full-proof.

David E. Bank at The Center for Dermatology in Westchester, New York recognizes the affordable trend of using hairspray as setting spray but he doesn't endorse it. "Hairspray contains alcohols, which can strip the skin of moisture," he explained to Bustle. "It can also clog your pores and lead to irritation and acne flare-ups."

Setting sprays, on the other hand, "destroy bacteria while keeping makeup in place," Dermatologist Dendy Engelman explained to Refinery29. This makes the sprays far superior to misting your face with water and/or hairspray.

When life hands you lemons, don't put them on your face

Does citrus belong in skincare? Some think so, but just remember the last time you peeled an orange or cut a lemon without realizing you had a cut on your hand. Not exactly a rejuvenating experience, was it?

Additionally, lemons contain the chemical psoralen, New York Dermatologist Doris Day, explained to CNN, and you can't put lemons on your face without also transferring psoralen. This powerful chemical makes your skin very sensitive to light. According to Day, it takes as few as ten minutes to activate and as long as 24 hours to wear off. If you were to then go out in the sun, your skin could actually blister. Ouch!

"I see it on people at the beach if they're having a Corona or a margarita," Day explained. "Because they squeeze the lemon and get a rash on the back of their hand. It's the splatter pattern of how they squeezed the lemon, and the sunburn effect." Now imagine that — but on your face. No thanks.

The same is apparently true with limes and lime juice, which are actually common DIY acne treatments, reported Reader's Digest. The thinking behind it is that, due to the antioxidants and antibiotic quality in limes, it will cause skin renewal. Instead, it causes blisters much like lemons, and can even cause abnormal skin coloring that Dermatologist Alejandra Vivas told Reader's Digest can last for months. Yikes! Let's add that to the list of things you should never put on your face, for sure.

What happens to your body when you give up caffeine

 tháng 5 17, 2018     No comments

Coffee is glorious. Enjoyed by billions for its miraculous abilities to pick up and wake up, it's a uniter. People in the Middle East like it (Arabica beans!), people in South America like it (Colombian beans!), people in the U.S. like it (there's a Starbucks every 15 feet). But once in a while there comes a time when some poor soul must give up not just coffee, but its active ingredient, caffeine, in all its many forms. And there are good reasons to quit coffee and the like: it can destroy your stomach's lining, deprive you of sleep, or send your blood pressure sky high. Caffeine is a highly addictive substance, and your body goes through quite an ordeal when you try to break that dependence. Here's a look at what happens to your body when you quit consuming coffee, tea, soda, and energy drinks.

Your blood pressure will go down

Caffeine is a stimulant. Sure, it makes you more awake and focused, but along with that immediate speed-up affect on your brain comes the speed-up affect on the heart and blood. Because it's a vasoconstrictor, or substance that narrows blood vessels, caffeine raises blood pressure — from just a few points in some, to huge numbers in others. (The American Psychosomatic Society attributes 20 percent of all stroke-related deaths to caffeine consumption.) Eliminating it from your diet can restore your blood pressure to normal healthy levels, or at the very least, help you avoid huge spikes every time you pour a cup of coffee.

You'll sleep better

Caffeine helps you fight off the sleepies, of course, but it can work too well, providing not just a clean break from sleep when you need to be awake but preventing sleep when you actually want to be sleeping. Drinking too much, especially late in the day, can wreak major havoc on your sleep patterns. Its affects can be felt as long as six hours later — meaning a cup of coffee to get you through the last hour of work at 5:15 could be the reason why you're laying in bed, wide awake, at 11:15.

Your dental health will improve

Over time, consumption of coffee and tea can color teeth a subtle shade of brown. The sugar in caffeinated sodas leads to tooth decay. And then there's how large amounts of caffeine can lead to teeth grinding, or bruxism, in the middle of the night. Getting the culprits of tooth stains and jaw pain out of the picture can lead to better overall mouth health (not to mention prettier, whiter teeth).

You'll lose weight

No more unnecessary adrenaline spikes

Caffeine aggressively stimulates the adrenal glands, leading to the release of adrenaline into the bloodstream. But since your body (probably) isn't going through a "fight or flight response" on a daily basis, that adrenaline isn't necessary. The result is agitation and high anxiety. But switch out the coffee for something without caffeine, and it's likely you'll lose those adrenaline spikes and enjoy more stable moods.

How To Apply Makeup Perfectly

 tháng 5 17, 2018     No comments

Ladies, makeup is not a mask, it’s a form of art and more importantly – it’s a form of expression. It can be a hell lot of fun to try out different things because you have all the creative freedom to experiment with what you like best. Do you also feel that makeup is an extension of your personality? Of course, each one of us has our very own style and preferences but the basics of nailing your makeup – in whatever kind you like – be it simple or intricate are the same.
There exists an art of applying makeup, and the smallest of things can make a huge difference to how your end results turn out. We’ve done some good-old research to make your life easier and break down the steps involved in applying makeup perfectly.
Let’s begin with the pre-makeup routine for healthy skin.

How To Prepare Your Skin Before Makeup

The key to glowing and naturally flawless skin begins with some amazing preparation for your skin.  I cannot stress enough upon how important prepping is – because it makes your job easier and you won’t have to work so much on “fixing” any issues that your skin may already have.

Step 1: Cleansing Your Face

Begin with a clean canvas! The first step to your routine should involve removing any traces of oil or dirt. You can use a gentle cleanser to wash your face to make it squeaky clean. Choose a facial cleanser that suits your skin type.

Step 2: Using A Toner

A toner can actually do wonders for your skin. If you have an oily or acne-prone skin, then toners are a blessing for you. It helps to balance the pH levels of your skin and tighten your pores. Just dab some toner on a cotton pad and pat it all over your face and neck. Do add this step to your skincare regime!

A moisturizer is an essential part of your skincare regimen. You need to hydrate your skin well, in order to get your makeup to look great. Choose a moisturizer that suits your skin type and knock yourself out. It keeps the skin underneath your makeup healthy and it also helps to provide a smooth finish rather than a cakey look. You can also add a few drops of rose water to your cream or moisturizer for added hydration.

Step 4: Wearing Sunscreen

You will thank your younger self in the future if you follow this step. Wearing sunscreen throughout the year is vital if you want to avoid premature aging of your skin, hyper pigmentation and other terrible possibilities that can occur because of harmful UVA rays. So do yourself a favor, and put on SPF!
Following these basic steps before stepping out can show significant improvement in your skin. So now that you have a clear picture of how to prepare your skin before makeup, let’s move on to the actual application part, shall we?

How To Apply Makeup Perfectly

These steps are infallible, and if you even have about five minutes of your patience to spare, you will become a pro within no time. So let’s get rolling to the fun part.

What You Need:

  • Primer
  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Blush/ Bronzer
  • Powder
  • Eye Shadow
  • Eye liner
  • Mascara
  • Lipstick/Gloss
As per your preference, you can choose to skip the products you don’t wish to wear, but we’ve got the whole step-by-step tutorial chalked out for you. It’s also really important to be aware of your skin-type as you can decide what kind of products to pick – oil based, water based or mineral makeup. Pick the kind that meets your personal requirements. Only, after completing the pre-makeup routine, move on to these steps.

Step By Step Tutorial

PART I: Achieving A Flawless Base

Step 1: Using A Primer

The first and foremost step is to apply a primer. Doing this will boost coverage, smoothen out your texture, minimize pores and will increase the longevity of your makeup. If you’re going to be running around or sweating, then a primer is a must. The L’Oreal Paris Base Magique primer is a great option for a primer.

Step 2: Applying Foundation

Choose the exact shade of foundation for your skin tone to achieve a flawless look. A good trick for finding the right shade is to match it to your chest. Remember the golden rule, ladies – less is more. That’s the case with foundation.
  • Take some product on the back of your hand and apply it on your face using a brush or a damp makeup sponge for an airbrushed effect.
  • Make sure you blend the product well along your face, jawline, and neck, so you don’t look like an Oompa-Loompa.
  • For better coverage, take some foundation, using your concealer brush and apply over stubborn blemishes.
The Maybelline Fit Me Foundation range has a variety of different shades and is a great pick for liquid foundation. The Bobbi Brown Foundation stick is also perfect for an incredibly natural look.

Step 3: Time To Conceal

A concealer is typically used to cover up those bothersome spots, blemishes and dark circles. Use a concealer in a shade slightly lighter than your skin tone to brighten and even out any areas that need work.
  • With a concealer brush, apply the concealer under your eyes in an upside-down triangular shape and blend well.
  • Dab some product on spots and other imperfections and blend the edges well, so it seamlessly blends into your foundation.
Choose a liquid concealer for light coverage and a wide area of your face – as for your under-eye area. Choose a compact or stick concealer for a better coverage and small areas.

Step 4: Setting Your Foundation

This step is totally optional but if you are someone with oily skin then make sure to use a compact or setting powder in a color matching your skin tone. You can use a sponge or a buffing brush to apply the product evenly on your face and neck. A compact is easy to tuck into your purse and you can touch-up to keep your face looking shine-free.

Part II: Time To Enhance Your Features

Once you have your base ready, it’s time to define and enhance your beautiful features!

Enhancing Your Eyes

Make sure to purchase a high-quality eyeliner and mascara, so it won’t smudge or smear.
  • Using an eyeliner, line your upper waterline and the outer corners of your lower lashline. Use a brush to smudge the product to avoid harsh lines.
  • Use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes.
  • Apply a coat of mascara to instantly open up your eyes and make you look more awake and bright.
  • You can add a hint of a neutral shade of eyeshadow to your eyelids for a complete look.

Getting Those Brows-On-Fleek

Defining your eyebrows instantly adds structure to your face. If you have naturally dark, well-defined eyebrows then congratulations, you may skip this step. But if you have sparse or over-plucked eyebrows, then you can use an eyebrow pencil or brow pomade to fill them in.
  • Choose a pencil or product that very closely matches your eyebrows.
  • Use short strokes to create small “hairs” in the gaps.
  • Use a makeup brush to blend and brush out the product evenly into your eyebrows for a natural look.
  • Once you fill them in, you can use an eyebrow gel to set them in place.
There are various amazing products available in the market, specifically for your brows like eyebrow kits and duo-shapers. For special dos, add a highlighter under the brows to make them stand out!

Applying Blush

Blush adds a cheeky glow to your skin and makes it look fresh and healthy. Use a blush brush to apply the blush to the apples of your cheek. Refrain from mixing textures – if you are using a powder, stick to a powder blush and if you are going sans powder, stick to a cream blush.
You can add a touch of highlighter or luminizer to your cheek bones, along the bridge of your nose and under your brow bone for an appealing radiance.

Working On That Pout

Before you put on anything on your lips, make sure you’ve moisturized them with some lip balm for lush and healthy looking lips. Choose lip colors that complement your skin tone. If you want to wear nude lipstick, find the right shade of nude for your skin tone. If you’re feeling chirpy and want to go with bright colors, find shades that you can work with.
  • If you’re looking for heavy coverage, wear lipstick.
  • If you want sheer coverage, line your lips with a lip pencil and dab some liquid lipstick or gloss.
Voila! Your makeup is complete, and you’re set to go out there and rule! Wasn’t that easy? With just a few steps, here and there, every day, you can achieve this camera-ready look. As per your preference, you can amp it up or down to suit the occasion and atmosphere.
Makeup is a fun affair, but there are certain measures you must keep in mind if you want to avoid any kind of skin troubles and other issues.

Precautions To Be Taken While Applying Makeup

Remember, hygiene is a very important aspect of both applying and removing makeup. If you want your skin to remain healthy, then do follow certain standards in the application of makeup.
  • Invest in high-quality makeup products and make sure to keep a check on their expiry dates to avoid reactions and breakouts. Dispose off any old products beforehand.
  • Always wash your hands with an anti-bacterial soap before you start doing your makeup.
  • Make sure you wash your makeup brushes and sponges every other week because these tools tend to accumulate a lot of dirt and grime in them.
  • Say ‘no’ to sharing makeup. Sharing your makeup products such as eyeliners or lipsticks may lead to spread of bacteria and infections. Prevention is better than cure so remember to not share your personal products just like you wouldn’t share your toothbrush.
  • Be gentle with your eyes and do not use sharp objects or pencils to do your eyes. A moment of rush may result in injury. So always be careful while you do your eyes.
  • Store your makeup in a dry and cool place.

Firstly, don’t try to look fairer or darker – please use the exact shade of foundation for your skin tone to avoid the first and one of the most commonly committed blunders – the wrong shade of foundation! Just NO!
The right way to choose your foundation shade is to take a little bit of it on your finger tips and blend it on your jawline or neckline. If you can’t see it once it’s properly blended, then that’s your shade. Always blend the product well, on your face, neck and onto the exposed chest part so that the colors match, if your hands are dark, then you can add some on your hands as well.
If you have gotten excess product on your face, then take a wet wipe and gently dab it on your face to remove any excess product. You can do the same in case you’ve gotten excess concealer on.

Lip Liner

This is one of the most cringe-worthy blunders you can commit. You’re supposed to line the natural lining of your lips to add definition. Do not go all ‘Kylie Jenner’ on your lips to make them look bigger. Use a neutral shade or a liner that is one shade brighter than your natural lip color.
If you get any excess liner on, take some makeup remover on a cotton pad and carefully remove the excess product without disturbing the lipstick.

Over-plucked Eyebrows

Please be gentle while defining your brows, so you don’t end up looking like you literally drew them on with a Sharpie! Use a color that looks natural on your face and make short, gentle strokes to fill them in.

Blush

In case you’ve gone overboard with your blusher, then use your compact powder to color correct. You don’t want to end up looking like a clown.

Lipstick

When you want to lighten your lipstick, take a tissue paper, fold it into half and kiss it, placing it between your upper and lower lips.

Eye Makeup

When applying eye shadow, keep in mind not to extend it upto your eyebrows. When applying eyeliner, keep the lining as close to your waterline as possible for the best look.
Ladies, we hope you’ve got some of these tips penned down on the back of your minds. We covered a whole bunch of simple steps to help you achieve makeup that is on-point for the next time you want to play around with different looks!

11 Models Breaking Barriers and Changing How We View Women's Bodies

 tháng 5 16, 2018     No comments

Tess Holliday isn't the only model transforming the beauty industry

When it comes to shattering societal beauty norms, Tess Holliday is the queen. For a couple of years now, Holliday has been revolutionizing what it means to be a supermodel and has followed her dreams into a successful career. In 2015 alone, she was named one of the top plus-size models by Refinery29, Vogue
Italia andHuffington Post. Since then, she's become one of the most prevalent body image activists of our time and founded the movement #EffYourBeautyStandards. But Holliday is not the only plus model turning heads — here are 11 other models who are not only bringing awareness to plus-size fashion, but also making a difference in the beauty industry and the entire world.

1. Hunter McGrady

McGrady is all up in Sports Illustrated's 2017 Swimsuit Issue, and we couldn't be happier about it. The model is proud to be breaking barriers as a plus-sized model in SI.

The truth about anti-aging creams and serums

 tháng 5 16, 2018     No comments

Anti-aging products make up a huge part of the skincare market. From serums to cream, there are shelves full of topical products making all sorts of claims to reverse or prevent signs of aging. But do these really work? It's hard to believe something as simple as smoothing on a cream can produce any major results. So we talked to three dermatologists to get their take on anti-aging creams and serums and if they actually work — and we have good news! All three unanimously agreed that yes, anti-aging topical products do in fact work. However, there are a few things you should know before purchasing to guarantee real, longer-term results.

Price doesn't actually matter

Nervous about your budget? Don't be! You may think the pricier the better when it comes to getting results, but that isn't necessarily true. "There is this misconception that more expensive products always work better," explains RealSelf's Dr. Joel Schlessinger. "But in reality it all comes down to knowing what is good and the science behind it." That means if a product has active ingredients such as retinol or antioxidants, it doesn't matter whether it's from a drugstore, a dermatologist, or a premier luxury line.

Retinol can reverse signs of aging

The truth behind whether a topical product works or not comes down to the ingredients it's packed with. Retinol is a key ingredient when it comes to reversing the signs of aging. "It's my No. 1 anti-wrinkle eraser," explains Aesthetic Dermatology specialist Dr. Desmer Destang. Retinol is an active form of vitamin A. As we age, our bodies lose vitamin A naturally, which is what helps create those signs of aging such as wrinkles and a dull complexion. But retinol can reverse this. "Retinol and especially retinoic acid work to increase cell turnover, build collagen, improve discoloration, [and] treat wrinkles by replenishing the body of vitamin A," explains board-certified and nationally-acclaimed dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman. As Dr. Schlessinger explains it, "retinol essentially teaches aging skin cells how to behave like younger, healthier cells by encouraging them to turnover more rapidly." So if a product contains retinol, you can expect to see smoother, brighter, firmer skin.

Antioxidants can also help prevent signs of aging

Another key ingredient in anti-aging skincare: antioxidants, which do in fact promote repair and healing when you have already mature skin. But their main anti-aging benefit is prevention. Antioxidants help protect the skin from free radical damage and environmental stressors such as UV damage or pollution. "They protect the key supporting protein structures within the skin by decelerating their degradation," explains Dr. Destang. These antioxidants come in many forms, including vitamin E and C, green tea extract, niacinamide, and resveratrol. Dr. Engelman further explains, "Vitamin C pairs with free radical scavengers in search of a missing electron, so it neutralizes the damage a free radical can do if it were to pair instead with an electron from a skin protein." So if you're someone who isn't quite seeing the signs of aging yet, but is nervous about the future, look for products packed with any of these kinds of antioxidants.

These active ingredients should come in high concentrations

As you turn over boxes to look for active ingredients like retinol and antioxidants, you'll want to make sure they come in a high enough concentration to actually work. Dr. Destang notes that they should be at the top of the ingredient list. "An active ingredient placed higher up on the list suggests higher concentrations within the product," he explains. "You need to know whether the concentration be strong enough to actually create a biological effect."
