How to get rid of under eye circles

 tháng 3 30, 2018     No comments

"Wow, are you okay? You look tired!" We've all heard it. That concerned, but slightly offensive question. Yes, everything's fine, and yes, I am quite tired. As a busy mom of two and entrepreneur, under eye circles have become a part of my daily look, just like yoga pants and top knots. So I was especially excited to speak with dermatologists and beauty experts about their best tips for ditching those under eye circles.

While I won't be signing up for surgery any time soon, there are plenty of other easy and cheap ideas for looking more youthful and rejuvenated.

Know the cause

First, it's helpful to know what's causing your under eye circles. Once you know the cause, it will be easier to find the right solution. New York oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Brett Kotlus, MD told me those pesky under eye circles are the most common reason patients come to his practice. "The most common causes of under eye circles are protruding under eye fat pads and under eye fat loss or hollowing (also called the tear trough)," he explained. These fat pads can protrude and cast a shadow around the eyes. People who have under eye fat pads usually have them due to genetics. Take a look at your parents and grandparents. If they had dark or protruding under eye circles, that's most likely where yours are coming from.

Age is always a factor

Unfortunately, if you're not thrilled with your under eye circles, they're not going anywhere naturally. They actually worsen as we age. As we get older, we lose fat in our faces. When that happens, the fat pads under our eyes can look more pronounced, making us look even more tired.

"As we age, we lose fat in our face along with bone," Dr. Jill Waibel, owner of the Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute, tells me. "This causes the depression and sunken look in our faces."

You may have also noticed this effect if you've ever lost weight. Losing fat throughout the body means less fat in your face, causing an older appearance.

Focus on prevention

The health and beauty experts I spoke with had a variety of ways to get rid of under eye circles, but they all agreed on one thing: it's easier to prevent them than to treat them. "The best way to prevent under eye circles is to consistently use a revitalizing eye treatment," Chalet Cosmetics cofounder Andrea Rodriguez told me. "And of course to be sure to get plenty of rest and drink lots of water." Rodriguez recommends using an anti-aging cream like Chalet Green Apple Eyes every day. A good eye cream should provide the skin nourishment and moisture it needs to maintain its elasticity.

Sleep will help

The reason we hate our under eye circles is because they make us look tired. One of the easiest ways to improve your bags is to not be tired for once. That means it's crucial to get plenty of restorative sleep.

"Get your beauty rest," owner of Blu Skin Care, LLC Zondra Wilson told me. "It's not completely clear why not enough sleep results in dark circles under the eyes, but a lack of sleep tends to cause the skin to become paler (thus increasing the appearance of darkness under the eyes), and reduces circulation."

And while you're getting your restorative sleep, try doubling up on your pillows. When we light flat all night, fluid pools under our eyes. If you sleep at a slight incline, that fluid drains down and won't pool as much.

Wash your face before bed

Before going to bed every night, make sure to wash your face with a gentle cleanser. This is one of the easiest ways to keep a wide-awake, youthful look every day. Be sure to remove all your makeup before bed. "If you don't [remove your makeup] as you age, you will constantly look tired," says Zondra Wilson. "Yikes! Nobody wants that." New York esthetician and consultant Liz Donat, LE agrees. "Never sleep in your makeup!" she told me.

The real reason Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux split

 tháng 3 30, 2018     No comments

In news that shocked the world and left pretty much all of us believing that love is dead, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are over.

The estranged couple said in a joint statement to the The Associated Press on Feb. 15, 2018, "Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else's fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another."

They were a couple since 2011, but were only married two years before pulling the plug on the relationship. What the heck happened to this seemingly happy husband and wife?

They had too little in common

A source told E! News that despite their mutual penchant for wearing black, Aniston and Theroux are simply from different worlds.

"Jennifer and Justin fell in love hard and fast and yet they were never really suited to one another. He was a New York hipster that loved the alternative lifestyle and Jennifer was living a much more reclusive life when they first started to fall in love. The initial chemistry between them made it easy for them to ignore their differences and incompatibility … He's more nomadic, more of a free spirit, he's rugged and urban and Jennifer just isn't that kind of person."

The source added, "Jennifer's previous breakups had taught her to live a life that was very secular; her friendship group was small and consisted of people that she intimately trusted. Justin was used to being way more social and so that was a big concession for him … They've had problems for a while."

They were insanely busy

A source told People, "For years, even before they married, they compromised and did their own thing. It has involved long separations, especially for their work demands."

The last year was particularly grueling schedule-wise: After Theroux wrapped up work on The Leftovers, he did voiceover work for The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017), appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), filmed three more movies, and signed on for the TV show Maniac. Meanwhile, Aniston starred in The Yellow Birds (2017), filmed Dumplin' (2018), and signed on to an as-yet-untitled Apple TV project alongside Reese Witherspoon for 2018.

A source told Radar Online, "Jen's proud of Justin's work but she'd be lying if she said she wasn't looking forward to the end of his HBO series, The Leftovers, which has relocated to Australia for its third season." The insider claimed that "after Justin told her bosses were leaving a door open should HBO want another series, Jen flipped out … It would have been better if he could have gotten a serious movie career off the ground as that only involves him being away for six weeks instead of six months."

They may have had a faulty foundation

Aniston often gets painted as the victim of man-stealing Angelina Jolie, but it turns out she may have been a homewrecker herself. Before shacking up with Aniston in 2011, Theroux was in a live-in relationship with stylist Heidi Bivens for 14 years.

Bivens' mother told Radar Online, "Heidi told me what Justin had told her [after they broke up], that something was going to be written about him and Jennifer, that something was going on between them and he wanted her to know that it was nothing, there was nothing to it. Out of his own mouth he told my daughter there was nothing to [the news he was involved with Jennifer]."

A source told Grazia magazine (via Page Six), that Aniston tried to mend fences with Bivens. "Jen told Heidi that she understands what a painful time she has been going through and explained that she wanted her to know, hand on heart, that she would never steal another woman's man," the insider said."

They lived on separate coasts

The biggest hurdle for Aniston and Theroux's marriage was the physical distance between them.

A source told People, "Jennifer loves her life in Los Angeles, and if anything, she has grown more attached to being there. Justin is not that comfortable or happy in Los Angeles all the time. He loves New York and always has."

An insider told Us Weekly, "Jen tried the whole living in New York City thing with Justin, but at heart, she is a California girl. New York City just wasn't ever going to be home for Jen … [Theroux] spent most of his time [with friends in New York]. Encouraging Justin to spend as much time as he wanted in New York City is what doomed the marriage. Jen thought by doing so, spending time without her would make Justin miss her more."

A supposed friend of the pair saw the split coming, telling In Touch, "Jen and Justin have arguments about where they should live. Jen can't stand the weather in New York and she hates not having a car in the city to drive to wherever she needs to go … She's always hoping that they can work out their differences — she sees a glimmer of hope every time Justin returns to LA … Unless there is a miraculous turnaround on both of their parts and they can actually live together in the same home in the same city, Jen and Justin could be history."

The womb watch got old

niston's womb has been a constant source of media scrutiny since her days as Mrs. Brad Pitt, and her marriage to Theroux brought out tabloid hawks even more — and that devastated her, likely adding to tension within the marriage.

In a blistering op-ed for The Huffington Post in July 2016, Aniston wrote, "For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up … I may become a mother someday … But I'm not in pursuit of motherhood because I feel incomplete in some way … I resent being made to feel 'less than' because my body is changing and/or I had a burger for lunch and was photographed from a weird angle and therefore deemed one of two things: 'pregnant' or 'fat.' Not to mention the painful awkwardness that comes with being congratulated by friends, coworkers and strangers alike on one's fictional pregnancy (often a dozen times in a single day)."

Unfortunately, her op-ed didn't necessarily help. As Aniston told Vogue in August 2017, "I think the problem is the tabloids and the gossip columns taking the human body and putting it in a category. They're either fat-shaming, or body-shaming, or childless-shaming … I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human … I couldn't hear this narrative anymore about being pregnant or not pregnant; you have no idea what is going on personally in our lives and why that is or is not happening."

Gerard Butler may still have the hots for her

Aniston dated 300 (2006) actor Gerard Butler in 2009 while they were filming The Bounty Hunter (2010). Though the romance was short-lived, sources say the former co-stars may be giving it another go.

"Jen has been leaning hard on Gerard as her relationship with Justin continues to disintegrate," a source told Radar Online in February 2018, just days before news of the breakup broke. The source added that Butler telling Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in January 2018 that Aniston was a better kisser than Angelina Jolie was no accident, either.

"It's no coincidence that just as Jen's marriage is imploding, Gerard made a public display of affection and loyalty toward her … She's really touched that Gerard is proving he has her back," the insider alleged. "Gerard told Jen he's still carrying a torch for her. He's made it clear that the timing wasn't right before, but he's ready to commit to her now."

What happens to your body when you eat fast food

 tháng 3 29, 2018     No comments

We've all been there: starving, way past hangry, and convinced your stomach is starting to digest itself. And then you see it out of the corner of your eye, like a desert mirage: the unmistakable golden arches of a McDonald's. In a last ditch effort to save your sanity, you whip through the drive-thru and house a Big Mac and large fries faster than you can blink.

At the time, fast food seems like a true gift. It's freaking delicious, and it's cheap. But within a few hours, you may start to feel off. Your stomach may hurt, or you might notice your skin is a little greasier than usual. You immediately curse the meal you ravaged not too long ago. Here's what's actually going on in your body when you eat fast food.

You gain more weight

If you've ever looked at the nutrition facts on any food or drink label, you've probably noticed that every measurement is based on a 2,000 calorie diet. While the amount of calories you should eat daily to maintain a healthy weight depends on a number of factors, including your sex and height, in general the more calories you eat, the more weight you gain.

Fast food is notorious for containing a ton of calories. For example, a crunchy taco from Taco Bell has 190 calories, a Big Mac has 540 calories, and a Wendy's Baconator has 950 calories. Now, if these were your only meals of the day, that'd be one thing. But that's probably not the case, considering fast food is full of empty calories, meaning they hold little to no nutrients — which is why you're hungry again so soon after eating it. A 2004 study found that those who eat fast food frequently generally have a higher body mass index and are more likely to be overweight than those who don't.

You get tired

In 2015, a Daily Mail writer tested fast food's effect on the body by eating nothing but fast food for a full week. By the end of the week, she reported that her "concentration levels were much lower than usual and [her] fatigue was a real issue, even after a long night's sleep."

If you've ever had a food coma, you'll relate. It turns out the exhaustion you feel after eating a large meal is real. The sleepiness comes from a certain type of amino acid called tryptophan, which becomes more available to the brain via carbohydrates. Since fast foods are typically heavy in carbs, it makes sense that the more fast food you eat, the more tired you'll feel.

You raise your cholesterol levels

According to the American Heart Association, there are two types of trans fats: naturally-occurring, which comes from animals, and artificial, which are created industrially and are the types of trans fats most fast food companies use because they're inexpensive, last a long time, and — if we're honest — they make food taste damn good.

Trans fats are known to raise your cholesterol levels, which increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. In fact, they're so bad for you that some places have even restricted the use of them, the American Heart Association confirms.

Kaleidoscope Hair Is the New Watercolor-Inspired Take on Rainbow Hair-Color Ideas

 tháng 3 27, 2018     No comments

As William Shakespeare once said, "Rainbow hair by any other name would look as sweet." OK, I might have tweaked the iconic line a bit, but it fully applies to a pastel rainbow hair look going viral on Instagram — whether Juliet had rainbow hair or not.
The stylist who came up with the dye job refers to it as "watercolor rainbow" and "rainbow river" hair, while others on Instagram have dubbed it "kaleidoscope hair." Its opalescence reminds me of a rainbow highlighter like the Too Faced Rainbow Strobe Highlighter, so I guess I should throw "rainbow highlighter" hair into the ring. Regardless, Portland-based hairstylist Lindsay Wolf dyed one of her clients' hair all different pastel tones of ROYGBIV with a technique that created a gorgeous prismatic effect. You typically see this look done with vibrant, neon shades, but Wolf was able to accomplish it with delicate, dreamy ones — just as she hoped.
"This look was inspired by nature, specifically the rainbows of the Pacific Northwest," Wolf tells Allure. "I knew I wanted it to be a softer take on bolder rainbow hair looks I’d been seeing a lot of. I wanted the shades to look fluid, as though they were melting into each other, not being able to see where each color begins or ends." If you ask me, she was able to do that flawlessly.
To make kaleidoscope hair happen, Wolf started off her pastel prismatic rainbow look by lightening her client's hair to an icy platinum blonde. This shade is essential for pastel dyes, and her client had to stop by the salon for two four-hour sessions to achieve it. For the third five-hour session, Wolf painted on the pastel dyes from Guy Tang's Mydentity line, specifically Pink Diamond (a rose), Lavender Lust (a smoky purple), and Mint of Steel (a seafoam). She also used Pulp Riot's Powder (a sky blue) and Lemon (a buttery yellow). She alternated between four different patterns of color combinations as she worked around her client's head. "I actually had to write them down and hang them in front of me so I didn’t forget which color came next," she admits. In case you weren't following, the whole process took 13 hours total. Damn.

Thinking about trying out the look for yourself? Because it requires bleaching, Wolf says it's best for those with natural medium to light blonde hair with a fine to medium texture. She also recommends scheduling an appointment with a stylist who is confident with working with direct dyes. Once you do so, ask them for a "multi-toned pastel color melt," as Wolf calls it. Plus, "know that this is a look that requires an investment of time, money, and patience, but the results are so, so worth it," she adds. Agreed.

How To Whiten Your Yellow Nails

 tháng 3 26, 2018     No comments

It is a common thing for your nails to get all yellow due to the usual manicure. You probably already noticed there is nothing different even if you use top coats. This being said, we think you will find today’s article quite useful. Here is how you can whiten your nails in your own home.

You will need:
– 2 ¼ tsp of baking soda;
– 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide 3%.
Directions: Mix the two ingredients. If the mixture isn’t thick enough, you can add more of the ingredients. Dip your nails into this mixture and let it work for 20-30 minutes. Meanwhile you can even use a toothbrush for scrubbing the nails. When done, wash your hands and use some moisturizing cream.

How to Choose Tinted Glasses, 1653

Celebs who have had bad luck in love

 tháng 3 26, 2018     No comments

Celebrity relationships aren't typically known for their longevity. Very few couples in Hollywood last more than a few years, and even the ones that go the distance tend to disintegrate one way or another. That said, here are some celebs whose love lives are even rougher than usual. Think your last breakup was hard? Try having your relationship go into the toilet blasted on the cover of every magazine in the world.

Taylor Swift

This songstress may generate hits on the Billboard charts, but when it comes to her love life there's no denying that she's no winner. After a slew of boyfriends and tons of chart-topping lyrics that center around breakups, Swift's love life has become a favorite for media fodder. The singer has dated several famous men including John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor Kennedy, and Taylor Lautner, and most of those relationships have ended badly. And let's not forget Harry Stiles and Joe Jonas. What happened with all of these boyfriends in such a short amount of time? While Swift does not tend to talk publicly about her relationships, many of her fans know that she says more than enough in her lyrics. Back in 2010, Taylor dated Jake Gyllenhaal for a few months and some of her songs on her previous album, RED, are known to reflect on that time. "The Last Time" is rumored to be about the movie star, with Taylor reportedly saying the lyrics concern a guy who is "unreliable, someone you never know is going to stay or leave, but does always come back." Some have noticed a pattern that none of the serial dater's relationships have lasted much longer than a few months. Maybe her bad luck has something to do with her, and not necessarily the boyfriend of the moment.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock has said publicly after her divorce that "Nobody can be prepared for anything." After what she considered to be a happy marriage to Jesse James, the movie star found out that her then-husband was having an affair in the most horrible of ways: through the media. Jesse's mistress was the heavily tattooed Michelle "Bombshell" McGhee. Upon hearing the news, Sandra Bullock reportedly broke down. "The feeling of shame and sadness that washed over me as Sandy began to cry was almost beyond measure. I didn't touch her. I sat frozen in my chair, watching, as Sandy's small body shook with sobs," James wrote. Worse, the breakup affected the children the couple were raising. Sandra had acted as a mom to Sunny, Jesse James' daughter from a previous marriage to a porn star, and so Sunny lost a second mother figure in her life during their permanent separation. Then there was also Louis, the boy that Sandra had adopted and would, for the time being, be raised without a father.

Buttermilk Pan-Fried Chicken

 tháng 3 24, 2018     No comments

“This fried chicken is double-crusted for extra crispiness. I like using extra-virgin olive oil for my fried chicken, but you can use whatever type of oil you prefer. I also cut the breasts in half so everyone can both have white and dark meat.”
Ingredients
1 3 1/2-pound whole chicken, cut into 10 pieces (breasts halved)
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Extra-virgin olive oil, for frying
6 fresh rosemary sprigs
Honey, for serving (optional)

Preparation

Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and sprinkle both sides with 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Let the chicken come to room temperature (about 25 minutes).

In a large bowl, combine the flour, garlic and onion powders, cayenne, black pepper and the remaining teaspoon salt. Pour the buttermilk into another medium bowl.

Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, making sure each piece is completely coated, then dip into the buttermilk. Now dredge once more in the flour mixture. Place on a rimmed sheet pan lined with a wire rack.

Fill a large, heavy-bottomed, high-sided pot or a Dutch oven with 3/4 inch of oil and place over medium heat (and no higher than medium). Heat the oil until a deep-fry thermometer reads 325⁰F. If you don’t have a thermometer, test the oil by sprinkling in a little flour – it should sizzle immediately.

Carefully add the chicken to the pot skin-side down without overcrowding (you will most likely have to cook in batches). Fry the chicken, turning occasionally, for 12-18 minutes, until golden brown and crisp, and cooked through (you can cut into the thickest part of the thigh near the bone to make sure it’s no longer pink – the dark meat will take the longest). The oil should maintain rapid but in-control bubbles and the oil temperature should stay around 325⁰F, so adjust the heat as necessary. Let the chicken drain on paper towel-lined plate.

Fry the rosemary sprigs in the hot oil for about 30 seconds, or until crisp.

Serve the chicken hot or cold with the fried rosemary. Drizzle with honey if you like.

  • 5 minutesPrep Time
  • 4Servings
  • 12Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 1 packet Old El Paso™ Taco seasoning mix
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup half and half or heavy cream
  • 2 cups instant white rice

  • 1/4 fresh cilantro, plus more for garnish
  • 1 small can Old El Paso™ Green Chiles
  • 1/2 cup pico de gallo or chopped tomatoes
  • 1 cup Mexican blend cheese

Instructions

Step 1 Heat the chicken cubes and olive oil in a large skillet over medium/high heat.

Step 2 Sprinkle chicken with the taco seasoning, turning to make sure both sides are coated. Add in the 1 1/2 tablespoons water to assist with coating all the chicken.

Step 3 Turn the chicken as you cook, about 6-8 minutes until the chicken is just cooked through.

Step 4 Place chicken on a plate and cover in foil to retain heat. Set aside.

Step 5 In the same skillet, add the heavy cream and white rice. Stir to combine. Add in the melted queso and salsa. Stir to fully combine. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to simmer for 5 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked and fluffy.

Step 6 Stir in cilantro, green chiles, and pico de gallo into the rice mixture. Add the chicken back to skillet and nestle into the rice.

Step 7 Cover with the 1 cup cheese. Place skillet under the broiler for approximately 3-5 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted on top.

Step 8 Garnish with more cilantro if desired. Enjoy!

Genius Tricks for Sleeping Better

 tháng 3 21, 2018     No comments

Tossing. Turning. Watching Chuck Norris fitness-apparatus commercials. No one likes insomnia. So we rounded up our favorite little tips for trying to get some quality shut-eye.

sleep1

WARM YOUR FEET WITH SESAME OIL
The natural oil (not the toasted cooking kind) is known to relieve anxiety and promote restful sleep. So give your tootsies a quick massage, slip on some cozy socks and get in the mood.
sleep2

DRINK A GLASS OF MILK--AND EAT A FEW ALMONDS

The two contain tryptophan and melatonin (natural snooze boosters), respectively. Opt for food with calming effects (not that half-eaten Hershey’s bar and leftover Thai takeout, which have adverse, stimulating effects).
sleep3

TURN ON THE HUMIDIFIER

Got a snoring problem? Fire up the vaporizer. (Or make a garlic steam treatment on the stove.) The moistened air can curb seasonal allergies or ward off other congestion troubles that are causing you to mouth-breathe--and not get any real rest.
sleep4

FIND OUT EXACTLY WHEN YOU SHOULD DOZE OFF

When it comes to hours of sleep, more does not always equal better. Work backward from the time you need to wake up, and then calculate your REM cycles with a bedtime generator. It’ll tell you when you should really fall asleep to reduce grogginess the next day.
sleep5

TRY A TRICK FOR FALLING ASLEEP FAST

So, you want to start said REM cycles…right now? Calm your mind by imagining your childhood home. Walk in and out of each room, reminisce about the artwork and furniture. And voilà: You won’t even realize you conked out.
sleep6

ATTEMPT A BREATHING EXERCISE

If childhood houses aren’t your cup of tea, get to know the “4-7-8” method. What you do: Exhale completely through your mouth; then close your mouth and inhale through your nose for a count of four. Hold your breath for seven counts and exhale again for eight counts. Repeat as needed. It’ll up your oxygen levels, slow your heart rate and signal your body that it’s time to hibernate.
